No No hair removal complaints – Does No No work, or doesn’t it? Users have the answers…

Does No No work, or doesn’t it? And, along with the praise, what are the no no hair removal complaints users have shared in the various forums and on other blogs?

If you’ve seen No No advertised on TV, or maybe heard about it from a friend, you may be wondering, will it work for me?

And, if you’re like me, before you invest in a beauty product – or any product – you want to know it will be money well spent and you’re going to get real results, not just another ‘hope in a bottle’ (or a box) bunch of promises.

So that’s what this post is about. I want to tell you everything I could find about what buyers (almost all are women) have to say about what they don’t like about No No. Plus, their suggestions and advice for getting more out of your No No purchase.

What is No No hair removal? What is No No 8800?

No No 8800 is the second generation of the No No. It uses a unique heat technology to weaken and (after several uses) destroy the hair follicle, causing hair to grow back thinner and softer and (in time, with continued use) not at all.

Benefits, according to Radiancy (the company that makes it) are effective reduction of unwanted hair with no pain, no mess, much lower cost than professional hair removal and at-home convenience. They say it is safe to use on your legs, arms, neck and face and just about anywhere (including bikini line) except your most sensitive skin (breasts and genitals). Unlike other methods, it works on any colour and type of hair, for any skin type and, they claim, leaves skin smooth with no bumps or skin irritation.

In one study (published in Journal of Drugs in Dermatology), testers had 44% reduction in leg hair after six weeks of using No No twice a week. Another study found that after six months of twice-weekly No No-ing, regrowth was reduced by as much as 94%.

Results like this lead this product to awards for excellence, including being voted Product of the Year 2011 by Consumer Survey of Product Innovation U.S.A. and being named Product of the Year by InStyle magazine.

However, No No doesn’t completely, permanently remove unwanted hair, and it doesn’t work equally well for everyone. This is also true of every other hair removal method and devise, even the most pricey professional methods (laser and electrolysis).

Although intimidating at first, you’ll be hooked once you get the hang of it. — Ebony magazine, June 2010

Many users were happy or generally satisfied with their results (actually, about two thirds, by my completely unscientific count of all the comments and reviews I was able to find – but often the satisfied people don’t bother to comment).

Here’s what the unhappy buyers didn’t like:

Burnt hair smell

This was the most frequently-reported complaint – that as No No is zapping the hair follicle with concentrated heat, you have an occasional puff of smoke and the unpleasant aroma of burnt hair.

Some users suggested using scented candles, or No-Noing in the bathroom with the fan on, or doing it outside. Others said they didn’t mind the smell, because that means it’s working.

Conclusion: Burnt hair smell is a given with the No No 8800.

It’s time consuming

On user said she had to “go over and over the same spot” and so it was time consuming to No No her legs twice a week, even though it was working. The company claims you can do it in about half an hour – and that if it doesn’t seem to be working, try another day. They also suggest it works best on clean, dry skin and when you clean the tip after every use and remember to buff your skin afterwards.

It seems that some people didn’t see fast results and gave up on No No too soon (that’s what some other users said in reply to their comments), suggesting this method of hair reduction requires some commitment – but (once you get the technique down) you can No No while watching TV because it’s that simple.

Conclusion: No No 8800 does take time and results aren’t overnight for most people.

Pain-free – mostly

Unlike waxing, laser and electrolysis (for some), No No-ing is pain-free, users say – all you feel is a sensation of warmth on your skin. And unlike shaving, there are no bumps or razor burn.

However, people who say they have sensitive skin also said they had red skin after using No No, but it did not hurt and went away within a few hours. A few people also said they did get what looked like very small cuts, but these also healed quickly, usually in a few days.

This appears to have been (other users suggested this) when pressing down with their No No, rather than gliding across the skin. You do get an instruction booklet and DVD with No No 8800 showing the technique, and while some users said this was really easy, others said it did take a bit of practice and recommended trying No No out on your arms or legs first.

Conclusion: No No 8800 is pain-free if you are careful on don’t use it on very sensitive skin.

“It didn’t work for me”

Looking at the dates on comments left on forums, almost all the people who said they got little result with No No were using the earlier one, the No No 8000 (the Classic). The Classic is still available in some stores, at a lower cost, but the feedback suggests it didn’t work as well as the No No 8800 (which came out in 2010).
No No 8800 also has a choice of tips (wide or narrow), settings and a light that tells you when it’s working (and you’re doing it right).

That said, it is true that some people get limited results from every method and there is no hair removal method that always works for everyone. Even with the most expensive methods, professional electrolysis or professional laser treatments, there is no way of knowing if it will work for you until you try it.

I did find comments from people who spent a lot of money on professional treatments, didn’t like the result, but were much happier with what No No 8800 did for getting rid of their hair. Summing up from all the comments, it seems to have worked the best for arm, leg, back, chest, neck and bikini line, and was a bit trickier (requiring some patience and also practice) to work on your face. The company sells a Sensitive Areas tip (as an accessory you might want) that is specifically designed for using on your face and other small areas.

It did not work for people who wanted fast results – but no method does. Hair grows in cycles (if you shave, you might have noticed sometimes it comes back faster).

Conclusion: No No 8800 works well for most people, over time and with patience.

It was hard to return

Along with the warranty in case anything doesn’t work properly or arrives damaged in the mail (there were a few complaints about this – people reported very prompt replacement of either parts or the entire No No 8800), there is a 60-day free trial.

If you don’t like No No, you can return it. But people who wanted to return it right away complained that they got resistance from customer service. They don’t come out and say so, but it appears that Radiancy (the company who makes No No) assumes you haven’t really given the No No a fair trial if you haven’t used it (2 or 3 times a week) for at least six weeks (this is also the time period of their own testing trials that resulted in 44% hair reduction for all the testers on average).

Conclusion: You do have 8 weeks to return No No – but if you used it for less than 6 weeks, that probably wasn’t long enough to see what No No can do for you.

No No hair removal complaints – Does No No work?

Judging by the comments and also No No hair complaints – both online and elsewhere – that I have found, most people like (and keep) their No No 8800, finding it really effective for unwanted body hair and either good or somewhat good for hair on their face.

It isn’t perfect – but then, no hair removal method is. Used with care and some patience and persistence, there is almost no down-side, for almost everyone who tries it.
