A Skincare Routine for Loose Skin

What a routine can genuinely improve here — and what it can't.

Let's be direct: no routine removes loose skin. What a routine can do is improve the hydration, texture, tone and comfort of that skin, which changes how it looks and feels more than people expect.

This page is built around that honest boundary.

What a routine can improve

  • Dryness, flaking and tightness
  • Rough or crepey surface texture
  • Dullness and uneven tone
  • Itching and general discomfort
  • Long-term skin quality, via retinoids and sun protection

What it can't

Reduce the surface area of skin, reposition tissue, or restore elastin that has been permanently altered. Products marketed on those claims are selling the gap between hope and biology.

Face and neck

  • Gentle cleanser, morning and night
  • Humectant on damp skin
  • Ceramide moisturiser, always including the neck
  • Retinoid two to three nights weekly
  • Daily sunscreen

Body

Daily

A thick cream or balm on affected areas straight after showering, while skin is still damp. Consistency here matters far more than the specific product.

Weekly

A lactic acid or urea lotion once or twice weekly for texture, if skin isn't already irritated.

The non-skincare parts that matter more

  • Time at a stable weight — retraction continues for many months
  • Resistance training and adequate protein, which change what sits under the skin
  • Sun protection to preserve remaining elastin
  • A consultation with a qualified provider if excess skin is substantial and affects daily life
